many thanks for the reply but as i am very new to electronics i dont understand.My joystick will only move upwards and downwards due to a cover plate stopping it move on the diagnal.on each microswitch i have 3 terminals newtral the next terminal is open and the last is closed , i hope this will help

 

I think you mean to say that each switch is single pole, double throw. But, since there are 4 switches, when does each one switch?
