i am very confused to how these are mad?

how are these constructed?

They are semiconductors, they are manufactured by doping a crystalline substrate so that the material has a p+ and e- regions. Then as the electrons flow across the bandgap between the conduction and valence band photons are emitted. The wavelength of the photon increases with the bandgap.
