Default Capacitor and transformer question?

Capacitor: What is the difference between ceramic and polyester capacitors?

Transformer: Can I use a 1K: 8 ohm audio power transformer in this project? If yes will it reduce the volts?

Thanks,

The turns ratio is the square root of the impedance ratio:

sqrt(1200/8)=12.25
sqrt(1000/8)=11.18

so your output voltage will be reduced by about 10%.

Remember that the 8 ohm winding is the primary, and that 8 ohms is not the DC resistance of the winding. It is the impedance of the load (speaker) that the transformer was designed for. It will have lower resistance than the secondary.

Thanks for the reply on the transformers. What about the capacitor? Would it matter if it is a polyester capacitor or not? The C2-C9s are supost to be polyester capacitors I cant seem to find them but I did find 0.01uF 400VDC ceramic ones.

Thanks again,
Kyle

Ceramic caps should work fine.
