Just got here. Little smaller then expect, which is a good thing. Surprisingly, they come with batteries installed, just pull out the little paper tab. Separate mic and speaker. Will get to the tear down, and further sound test, after I finish up on the other project and walk the dog. Records plays back my voice clear enough to fool the dog, with 'Get the cat...', but might not be the brightest... ate spark plugs while I was at work today. Louder then expected, but will need an amp for use outside a quiet room. Not disappointed with it at all, pretty much as expected. The recording isn't lost when the batteries are removed. Didn't have a fresh set of alkaline AAA, but NiMh sounded about as loud as the ones included...

Plastic figure is either screwed down, or some serious glue. Will leave it for when I open it up. It's hard plastic, like the base, kind of rubbery hair. Lots of white (lead-based?) paint. Don't think it's dog toy material, even though he really wants it...

What's inside...

Plenty of room, should have no problem changing to a 9 volt battery, add and amp and MCU. No need to find a new case.

The speaker, is real speaker, magnet with plastic cone. Not as loud outside the case, might need to change it. Have to see what it can handle. Mic is common, not much to say about it.

Not much on the circuit board, large black splotch, two switches, 5 x 4.7 uf caps, some surface mount resistors, and one to-92 device, maybe a transistor.

And yes, the plastic figure was screwed down.

A small portion of the cost of the thing was to give the woman or kid who screwed the figure a big bowl of rice.
