Default PS3 Controller

Hi all,
I'm thinking of starting a project to make a custom game controller for the PS3, I've seen a few already in development and they look interesting. I was just wondering if anyone knew where to start with something like this?

www.splitfish.com

Kind Regards

The easiest way to do it would probably to gut an existing PS3 controller and just re-wire the buttons and analog switches to your own devices outputs.

I wonder how hard it would be to try this with a small trackball and remove the right analouge stick? Hmm. Cheers for the reply
