Would that be a security system to prevent the unauthorized use of the laser?

What, like the laser beam going back and forth like in the movies?
It's fiction. One, lasers and a bunch of mirrors are impractical. You'd have to modify the room with a bunch of carefully aligned mirrors and just moving the furnature around where it blocked a beam makes it inoperative.

Second, nobody would use a visible laser... it's stupid.

Motion detectors- either infrared or ultrasonic- proved to be far more useful in the real world. Dirt cheap, too.
