Seemless battery / external power - Electronic Circuits Projects Diagrams Free

I have a 5V device that can be powered externally or by a li ion battery. When external power is applied, I want to charge the battery.

Is there an off the shelf solution for this?

Are you sure it already doesnt charge it with the external supply?

Many of the companies which specialize in analog components like Linear Tech, Micrel, Maxim, and National Semiconductor have Li-Ion charging chips.
