| If your AV source is half-decent quality like a DVD player, then a direct S-video connection is much, much clearer than RF.

| Hi Joel, A few years ago I compared the clarity of my VCR using RF, RCA video and S-video connections to my fairly new pretty good Sony TV. S-video was a little clearer than the others. Then I got a digital video recorder from my cable TV company and it came with all-digital stations. Connected to my TV with an S-video cord it looks like all channels are high resolution. Very crisp and clear. I know what it is like to have an old TV. I had my last one for 40 years. I fixed it, tweaked it and souped it up. And watched video tapes with a fuzzy RF connection. If it didn't have its chassis connected directly to the mains, I would have added an AV input.

| For the audio, add an input to the TV's audio preamp, for the video you shouldn't have much problem finding an RF converter with a web search, I seen one at www.web-ee.com | |

| Yes it is an old thread. You would be wasting a lot of time and money, and most likely disappointed in the results. RF modulators are cheap and easy to find. Have seen them surplus for $2.00. Walmart had some under $10. And usually not to difficult to rip out of an old cable box, VCR, or video game... Unless you have good parts, decent skills, and the right tools, you will likely pick up a lot of noise, and get a crappy picture. I haven't built a modulator, but did a video transmitter years ago, which after a lot of troubleshooting and tweaking, turned out to be barely functional, not really useful. | |

| RF modulators today are for blind people who don't care about picture clarity.

Some people buy a replacement TV every 2 years. They throw away the "old" one. I am using my daughter's "old" TV. My son found a perfect 27" CRT colour TV on the curb on garbage day. He took it home and uses it as a second TV. It has modern inputs and outputs.
