For those of us that have been using the BLUE SHOWER Cleaner/Degreaser spray for years with virtually no problem, it needs to now be noted, that not all of the BLUE SHOWER sprays are of equal value. For the most part, they are, EXEPT for the latest, which is BLUE SHOWER G3. This is absolutely nasty on plastics, even tho it says that it's "Safe on most plastics"... IT IS NOT! The BLUE SHOWER II is safe tho.

So if anyone uses BLUE SHOWER for electronic servicing, please be careful and DO NOT use the BLUE SHOWER G3, especially on plastics.
I just had a bad experience cleaning slide switches with BLUE SHOWER G3 and it fused all the switches, as it melted the plastic in the switches.
I have informed Techspray (maker of BLUE SHOWER) about this problem.

This is good advice, and generally applies to most of the "new generation" of chemicals used daily in electronics. Since the banning of CFC and Freon based aerosols, ( many moons ago now, like nearly 10 years ago depending where you live ) many of the replacements have been a bit of a let-down. Ask anyone who has destroyed a mode-switch in a VCR using one of the new chemicals.

I remember when this all first came about people were buying case lots of their favorite contact cleaners, including the Big Bath products. I managed to get a case "colour TV tuner cleaner" that was of the old formulation, fabulous stuff, almost "magically" restores silver and gold contacts.

As an aside, some of the same stuff can be had in the form of brake cleaner, you just have to read the labels, and see if it says it is safe on plastics or not. If it says safe, not "safe on most", you're all set. This stuff can be found in many auto suppliers catalogs.

Remember to re-lube after you clean those switches.
