Smile A hello from a Kiwi...

Just a quick hi from New Zealand to fellow electronics professionals. I've made a few posts here already having stumbled upon the Forum and hope that it will become a favourite place of mine.

I have worked my entire career in electronics mostly around repairing or developing high end equipment and in the last 15yrs it's been mostly TV Station equipment where my obsession with things camera is fulfilled on a daily basis.

Over 35yrs ago it all started for me when the local TV repair shop guy offered me some afterschool work in his business fixing all kinds of equipment including car stereo installs to the beginnings of colour TV in New Zealand. It was perfect for this then kid who was mad crazy over making projects in valves (tubes) (re-cyled from old TVs) from old radio magazines projects and my experiments with Shortwave longwire antennas and modern for the day receivers.

So the years have clicked by and the 100s of hours of benchtime has given me a mountain of experiences which i hope i can bring to the Forum as useful.

Thanking you all.... Pete

Welcome aboard Pete. I work with a guy who burned two years of vacation at once and spent 6 weeks in New Zealand. He didn't want to come back, the pictures were incredible.

Yes NZ certainly is the place to come visit if you like different scenery. Interesting though because in my work being kind of specialist we often have a slowly changing team of staff who're often young people from over seas who are doing their world travels.

Just the other day i was sharing coffee break with them at the TV Station's cáfe and we had a young lass from Canada, and two young guys, one ex USA and the other Germany.

They were all talking about having visited 'XYZ' and photographed the sunrise and 1st rays of the new day for the world or had helicoptered to 'ABC' to do 'DEF' ... (and so it went on). It was then that i realized i had NEVER seen these things and to do so would be next to impossible because access to them is via Pre-Packaged Tourist deals made before the individual arrives in NZ. For me or any other Kiwi to do the same trip it's usually very very expensive!!!

It was kind of sad though, sitting there listening to a group of 20yr old foreigners who'd done some really great life-memorable experiences in my country that at my 50yrs of age i am totally unlikely to ever do.... I guess that's the way it is sometimes.
