Yes, a code repository would be a good thing.

Do you think students might just steal the code though and pass it off as their own?

You'll just get more bull then you get now Pic and AVR can't play together,
There will be a lot of arguing Keep Nigel busy

Mike a code repository would be a good. And I know it would help a lot to learn with.

Colin mac don't give any code you don't want some one to have there going to try to pass it off. Can't steal what you give away.

Sure but I do not see that as a reason not to have a repository. The intent is to allow us to more easily share code with each other.

There's already code all over the net that students can 'steal', so it would make little difference from that point of view.

Why not include a licence agreement saying that if you use the code, you have to say where you got it from ne if they don't, sue.

Yeah the point of this topic is to decide weather or not sub forums will be a good idea.

At this stage I'm thinking of creating just an AVR sub forum to split that content and then their would be a clear line.. How does that sound?

PIC traffic is in the majority. Split off PIC and lump the rest together.

You're advocating putting the majority in a sub forum? That won't work.

Mike.

After the PIC, there isn't any micro that deserves a forum on it's own, in terms of the amount of threads. 8051 has probably more threads than AVR, even if they mostly come from Saudi Arabia or wherever. So I think it should be two categories, PIC and everything else, if anything.

Forget about what is a forum vrs sub forum for a bit. I am not suggesting how that should be arranaged.

What is the sense in splitting off a minor player like AVR and lumping PIC in with the other minor players ?

This is what you get when you search for AVR on this form
Quote:
Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.
There's 494 pages about 8051 uC
There's more pages on just one chip the 16f628 then there is for both avr and 8051

That is because AVR has 3 letters and 8051 has 4.
