Default Cannot post PNG or BMP

I'm having trouble posting PNG and BMP images, but can post JPG images. I'm using the manage attachment dialog, and a JPG attachment works as expected. The other two file types show up blank. Several weeks ago, all formats worked okay. Is there some bug and/or are others posting png images without problems?

All test images, including the ones that worked several weeks ago, were created from Eagle 4.14 using the export function.

Thanks. John

Edit: The test png image is 22 KB; the BMP is 5 MB, which I know is too big. The jpg is 162 KB. The images are all of the same schematic.

I'll keep trying. Maybe it is a different "flavor" of PNG being produced by Eagle. I hate to use up so much space with a jpg. John

I would try to open the BMP image in Paint or other programs and then save it in the PNG format.

You can't post BMP (for obvious reasons), use either GIF or PNG for diagrams, as you say JPG are far too large, and also poor quality.

This is odd. GIF also works (via Photoshop and a BMP from Eagle), but still having problems with PNG from Eagle and from Photoshop (via a BMP from Eagle).

I will just live with gif for now

Thanks.

Just exported a png file from Eagle. I'll try to attach it.

Mike.
Edit, worked fine. FYI, I exported at 90dpi.

yeah, bmp's aren't allowed, they are too big. giff's loose image quality, so png is the way to go.

That's it! Mine worked at 90 dpi too, but not at 150 dpi (the default setting in my Eagle export).

Thank you. It is a lesson to remember.

GIF's don't lose image quality, they are lossless.

I'll try one at 150dpi.

Mike.
Edit, curiously that worked as well. Could it be size related as this one is still only 15k.

Mike,

I think that is it. I just tried two schematics exported from Eagle with png. One was small and uploaded at both 90 and 150 dpi. The file size was less than 10 KB at each resolution. The other schematic was larger. It uploaded at 90 dpi (18.3 KB file size), but not at 150 dpi (31.9 KB file size). Curiously, the jpg at 162 KB also uploaded (see earlier post).

Of course, the larger Eagle file opens fine with other applications that I have on my desktop. So, I guess it is just a curiosity I will have to live with. It would be interesting if someone would try a larger Eagle file and see it they have the same issue. My version of Eagle is 4.14 and is the lowest level of paid license (i.e., the non-profit license).

I'll try a bigger file.

Mike
Edit, that worked as well. 150 dpi and 38K!! Maybe you did something different first time.

The problem was reproducible, but based on your results, I did some experiments and seem to be closing in on the problem. Maybe it's a dead horse, by now

I took the same schematic, exported to the desktop as a png file, and then modified the png file with Photoshop to various image sizes in pixels.

I modified only the width and kept height proprtional. The original was 2175 X 767 pixels and was only about 32KB when initially exported.

A width of 2100 pixels and less uploaded fine, even when the file size had grown to be fairly large (greater than 70 KB). However, images of 2175 and 2200 pixels wide (I bracketed the experiments with those two sizes) would not upload.

I didn't mess with different aspect ratios, so it may be area instead of width, and someone might want to define the limits on the image size (not file size) a bit closer.

For me, it is enough to know there seems to be a limit based on image size per se. John
