Unhappy Weird behavior on loading thread.

If I view a thread and start to post a reply before the whole thread has loaded, whatever I have typed gets deleted and I have to retype it. I first noticed this a few days ago.

Does anyone else have this happening? The reason I ask is because as well as this odd behaviour, my login details to some sites also get deleted. This is the user name, not the password. This is the sort of behaviour that a key logger would require so that it can log both user name and password.

I have PC-cillin installed and that reports everything OK. However, if I try to run housecall then IE (and firefox) mysteriously quit part way through. Windows is also up to date security wise.

This happens on the three machines I have in the house. Between these machines I have win2000 XP and XP-pro. As far as I am aware, no new software has been installed on any of the machines (bar post problem in an attempt to identify it).

Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Mike.

Maybe I should explain that better.

If when you've read this you press refresh and scroll down continually, the post reply text box will become visible. As soon as it is visible and before all the smilies etc have loaded you can type in the text box. It is this text that gets deleted. It seems to get deleted just before the similar thread panel starts to load.

Are you trying to tell us that you post replies without reading the thread first?
Or is your connection really slow? I can't scroll and type fast enough to simulate this.

This is just the browser building the page and the javascript/ajax coding does this. My only suggestion is to either wait until the page loads fully or you go into your options and turn off some of the ajax functions.

I'm on ADSL but have had speed problems lately (could be something to do with my son/daughter on the other machines ). Threads seem to load in stages, each reply being in seperate stages then the quick reply text box and then the similar threads section. If I scroll down with the center mouse wheel I can start to type in the quick reply text box before the whole thread has loaded. This is when the problem manifest itself.

Now you mention it, I can't remember why I replied so quick to a thread but think it was to do with a bad connection and having to retype the reply.

Hopefully, the BBS has always been this way and I have only just noticed it.

If no one else has this problem then I'm inclined to think it is some sort of malware on my machines and will try and find a way to remove it.

If anyone can verify or refute this happening then I would be very grateful.

OK, thanks.
I wasn't complaining about the site. I was more worried that I may have a virus and this was a symptom. I'm still a little worried as housecall still mysteriously exits part way through.

I've had this problem on several occasions as well. Obviously page load time has something to do with this, but when it happend to me the page load took at least a full minute and a half or two, even though all the information was there the faster fox load time was still going meaning something had timed out on the server side perhaps?

As a side note I haven't been able to run housecall in a while either. I'm wondering if it may have something to do with the fact that I'm using a real copy of Java instead of the mickeysoft one that housecall may be expecting. Could be the same thing happening here on the forums. Just some slight incompatability which crops up occasionally. Can blame it on microsoft using non standard Java.

Good to hear that someone else has observed this. Hopefully, thats all it is and I can stop worrying.

Interesting that you should mention Java, my son has been learning java and so it has been installed on all our machines just recently.

Yeah this doesnt sound like a virus.. just a javascript glitch (which is quite common among my years of coding)..
