It's already been said a number of times, but people don't search back through threads before posting (and you can't really expect them to), which is why PM is important.

With any luck, it will be a while before the spammers find a way to get around the new software. It kind of looks like these people are getting a little desperate, to invade forums to mass advertise. I'm sure it will eventually be made illegal.
Spamming is already illegal in the UK, and has been for a couple of years - however, seeing as the UK was never the source it's not made the slighest bit of difference!.

No, that's made a difference - law abiding citizens can't have guns, but criminals can! - it's not made life better or safer (quite the opposite), but it has made a 'difference'.

Yep, definately gets your attention. Just found out why no new post in the royal-toy-maker thread, its locked. Probably just as well, something wasn't quite right. Don't think UK business practices, or VIP protection is much different from here. Wonder if he found what he was looking for here.

Ok, but shouldn't moderators have the power to PM regardless of the current PM state?

Maybe the adminstrator can set that up, or add a function for a personal message when a user logs in (just in case they don't frequently check mail, or mail is filled with spam...). I think the moderator's option are limited, and no access to a user's options or information (E-mail address), which might be good thing in some circumstances, but for this forum, I trust the moderators, and feel that the information is kept secure.

I would like to re-affirm what Nigel has said.

If moderator/admin has to edit your post for any reason it is common sense to notify that person and explain why. Our moderators do a great job at this and to give them flak is pretty poor. If a person cannot be contacted they still need to know and a one day suspension is a good way to get their attention without too much disruption.

This thread is way off topic so I’m locking it. And please remember, this place wouldn’t be anywhere near as good without its moderators.
