At the top of the forum there's a sticky that says "IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING".

If you'd read it?, you would have seen that it says:

Quote:
Please note that due to spam that we have encountered in the past we require members to have at least 25 posts before you are allowed to make any new threads. However, any registered member can post replies to any thread.

Thanks Nigel, my old eyes cant read everything put before them anymore but such is life.
So it is OK for the Web master to SPAM us with his "Happy Birthday" emails. But he is realy worried about my SPAM?

Guess I could just post some stupid comments to get my count up to 25 but I probably wont, I have better things to do.

Hardly spam when you get ONE email on your birthday!, and (as I'm sure you know) it's NOT sent by the administrator, it's sent by the boards software, because YOU filled the optional birthday field in!.

I suggest you try reading up on the definition of 'spam', or watching the Monty Python programme that the name was taken from.

No one is worried about YOUR spam, because we've no reason to suppose you do such things - it's a small measure against spammers in general, to help relieve pressure on the moderators.

As you've already shown that you don't bother reading the rules about posting?, then it's obviously a valid precaution!.

But as it says, before you post READ IT FIRST, any posts not conforming will be rapidly deleted!.

They would also probably be deleted, and your account suspended or banned!.

Why are you always so abrasive, Nigel?

It's just the way he speaks, think nothing of it. If you adjust his voice in your head as you are reading from a scolding voice to a crazy jester stating his opinions in a voice with exclamations at the end of every sentence it makes him seem more accomodating.

LOL!!

I'm picturing Barny (purple dinosaur). That does make it a lot more readable.

I imagine a voice heavy with the gravitas that comes with his stature in the community. That and we give him credit for knowing what he is talking about. Notice also that he avoids the personal attack. The idea or the opinion is silly or foolish, seldom the person.

It is what it is, and I would never think to take offense even when it is directed at me.

'Personal attack' requires close proximity, and results in broken bones

It only take 22 pounds pressure to break an arm! (or a leg).

He's not so much abrasive, as blunt. I quite prefer people like that, because when you ask their opinion you know that you're going to get it. No dressing up, no bull, just their opinion take it or leave it.

A personal or ad hominem verbal attack is certainly a possibility and if you listen to the psycho-babble practitioners can be every bit as damaging as a physical blow. I suppose one of these days I'll offend some poor disadvantaged person who'll complain and I'll be called on the carpet so to speak.

25 posts seems to be a bit excessive - I really want to put a question to the forum but now I have to spend a few hours getting up my quota before I can.

I've also noticed that some people are able to start new threads with only 1 post - what's the deal?
