What in the world is XP doing whith all that ram.
Presumably it's running Linux?, as much of the Internet does, why down grade to XP or 2000?.

As for the amount of free RAM, what's the point of having memory and not using it, presumably it uses the RAM in an intelligent fashion to cache popular and currently used pages and data?.

If an computer runs out of ram it starts runing incredibly slow.

You shod see how nerve racking is to use Win 89 on 32 MB of ram.(they had such an PC in school). It takes it 1-3 seconds to minimize a window!

You're still thinking Windows! - that's a Windows problem, not a computer problem! - Windows slows down because it starts to use the hard drive as virtual RAM.

If a computer uses the RAM as a cache it will be dynamically allocated, so when it needs more RAM it simply takes it back - reducing the size of the cache.

As regards your question about the space used by the Forums?, I've no way of knowing what sort of figure it will be? - BUT, from my own small WinPicProg support forums running PHPBBS, I know that it's going to be a considerable amount of space - I would guess at gigabytes, not megabytes!.
