If time allowes over the weekend I make a short video of my fan with the audio sound and will put it on YouTube.

I maintain to keep an idea simple, especially for a humble fan.

But you can of course fit a commercially built frequency inverter to have full speed control from 0 to 150%. But those costs will outweigh the cost of a $20 fan.

    Default 6 speed fan

As said, I managed to get some time to make a clip on YouTube.
I forgot about the music but it enhances the video anyway.

That fan is not growling at low speeds and is very quite.

Just watch the video, the stroboscopic effect of the blades is quite cool.

    Yes, well spotted audioguru,

    :-)

It didn't click to me to give it a brush prior to taking the video.

I said it was a quick clip.

But now I'm vacuuming the house and will give it a clean in the next 5 minutes.

Hi. I can not watch YouTube - RODALCO2007's Channel . Because this website is filtered by my country.
Anyway, I added this capacitor in series with the fan and the following problems are seen:
    1. even when the switch is off, the fan is running
    2. the speed of fan is not changing by turning the potentiometer
    3. the speed of fan is always low
I thought the capacitance needs to be increased to decrease the Xc. I put a 6uF,400V capacitor. The problems of 1 & 2 still exist. But the fan speed is set at its maximum level.
    What is it for?!

Most 3 speed fans have 4 switches, 1 OFF and 3 for speed settings.

The extra cap is fitted in series with the supply to that switch so OFF means OFF.
The extra bypass switch shorts out the extra cap so the fan retains its original speeds.
