Default Get track number from IDE CDROM

Is there a way to get the track number from an IDE CDROM Drive? The drive will not be connected to a computer. Just to a power source.

I would think it's possible, but it may take more programming that I am willing to do. If it's simple that would be awesome.

Nope you need a PC or some very fancy microcontroller software / hardware.

Well it doesn't need to be that 'fancy', there have been various examples on the net using a PIC16F877 to control a CD-ROM as an audio CD player, with the usual track functionality.

Of course any old cheap CD / DVD player will display the track number on its display.
