i want to know if there is a way to take an ac motion switch and make it so it works with dc power so that i can have it activate a relay instead of a light

What voltage is it on AC?

They usually use a capacitive reactance supply (ie a capacitor) to provide the few mA DC supply required by the PIR motion sensor. It should be fairly trivial to convert it to 12v DC use. | |
