Hot Swap Power Supply, How to convert?

Hello all, 1st post and looking for some help in converting a Delta Electronics model DPS-300HB power supply out of a H/P LH300 server into a lab power supply. I,ve been all over the net and all I can find is how to convert a ATX(I believe that's right) supply out of a computer to one. Tried most of this procedure with limited results. Power on LED will flicker but cannot get it to come on steady with full output. Please keep it as simple as possible. I am a maintenance electrican with all my knowledge of electronics coming from OJT. Thanks, Kirk.
 
Hi Kirkgang, I had the same question this weekend and found your post. I couldn't find anything on the net to assist with this question. I figured it out by process of elimination and dumb luck. To get the PSU to engage, you will need to ground a line from the back. Looking at the back of the PSU and orient it where the connectors are on the bottom edge. Then, look at the 24-pin power connector. The bottom right connector should have +5v when the PSU is plugged in. Grounding this line will cause the PSU to engage and gave me full power. Make sure you ground it to one of the BLACK wires and not the WHITE or to the case. The last two may/may not work, but I was successful with the black ground.

Watch out for heat buildup. These units are directly in front of fans in the server. I have a dual PSU cage and mounted a fan at the back (hooked to the 12v lines in one PSU) to keep from heat failure. Good luck and I hope I was able to help you and other people searching for this same info. I'm pretty sure they're fully on as I've connected a transceiver to it drawing 25-30A. Good luck!

Bill, Thanks for the reply, I finally got mine working also. I don't have all my notes as to what I tried and what ended up bringing mine to life. I'll get all of it together and post what I had to do. As I stated I'm not an electronics wiz and I want to make sure I explain it properly to the best of my ability. Thanks again for the reply. These are good cheap PS's and it's a shame not to use them. My prototype is rated at 20A and I have 6 of them ready to be used once transformed in my hobby of RC Heli's. Later, Kirk.
 
On this model of PS there are two jacks, one is internal wiring and the other output. As I was only wanting 12vdc I tapped these as my output. The bottom right connection on the output jack goes back to the board and is tagged on/off. This was grounded to the green coming from the internal horz. connector on the left,looking from the rear. As to the internal wiring I picked up the 6v and installed a 6psb lamp to steady the output. The only internal connection that has be made is the black that goes between the two internal connectors, one horz. and one vert. It's working good for me at this time and also have put a fan on. Like I said at top, I'm no whiz at this, but hope info may help. Later, Kirk.
