Default Power supply 2-12v/1A using PWM

Hi everyone...

Here is my problem.I have designed a few basic power supplies (+/-15 volts for some op amps and a basic power supply using an LM317).

Recently we have been asigned to design a power supply(low power) with an output of 2-12V/1A using PWM modulation.

Am i supposed to controlt the PWM duty cycle using thyristors? Is there a PWM ic?

Plz some help and if anyone one has a link for an actual schmeatic as all i can find is schmeatics for linear power supplies...

Thnx

For one, look at the UCC3580 from TI -- datasheet here...

Of course, the TL494 is also a commonly-used PWM IC in switchmode power supplies... I probably should have mentioned that one first!

You can use a "Simple Switcher" buck regulator from National Semi or ON Semi.

Do u think i could use an Lm555 with a normal power supply fot the PWM modulation?

Just find a old AT/ATX powersupply or any switching PS, you will have the TL494 or the C3580.
70% using this IC's.
