Design 8-Bit Processor using VHDL - Electronic Circuits Projects Diagrams Free

I am final year's degree student. I planed to design an 8-bit's (basic) processor using VHDL and finally burn it to FPGA chip.

1) any good tool's (program) can be used? (now I used Xilinx Fundation)

2) do anybody know where i can get a good example or code?

a year ago, i was able to do this using altera up1 devlopment board along with their software max+plus ii.
