Hi,

I need to accept input from many devices ie thermostat, oxygen level reader etc into a port on my pc. I am not sure which device I should use to accept input, as I might have as many as 20 data streams being accepted at once. This is basically a logging system.

hi,
It would depend upon the type of signals that you are getting from the sensors.
Give us an idea what these signals will be, eg: analog, digital , voltage levels, etc.

I will be reading data from digital sensors(approx 10), as well as switching solonoids on and off(approx 12). I want to control all data flow from my pc, and not from a pic just yet. Still working on my electronics knowlege.

If you have not built anything yet I suggest you look at Dallas 1-wire or I-Button devices.

Look at the DS2480B Serial to 1-Wire Line Driver

They have addressable switches, ADC's, and other devices that will help you interface to the 1 wire bus.
