| New Member | dknguyen: Thank You for the tip on XBEE. They will do the trick quite nicely I believe. With a footprint that small and an operating range of-40C to 85C it should be robust enough. Put it this way... Below -5C or above 35C, I'm not going outside to work. 3v0: Good suggestion. After several hours last night of looking at what was available I have determined that the ATmega128 or 256 will be sufficent. |

BUt your truck stays outside either way doesnt it? Still, -40C is pretty damn cold.

| Experienced Member | I was raised not far from where dkngyen sits in front of his nice warm computer. I remember working outside when –40C was the high for the week. I remember seeing truckers with tons of ice hanging under the truck. The government wanted to charge them for running over weight. Some poor truckers used hammers to knock ice off until they could get back under weight. http://www.air-weighscales.com/downl...49-001rev1.pdf http://www.weighonboard.com/products.htm http://www.fleetequipmentmag.com/def...&entry_id=1441 http://fleetowner.com/equipment/what...new_onboard_2/ |

| New Member | @dknguyen: OMG, I have spent many... many hours looking at different projects I have done and wondered how easy it would or would not be to incorporate the XBee into them........ Thanks! ( I think LOL ) @crutschow: Thank you for the heads up about the digital transducers. After some careful review I think I shall go with your suggestion. Two main reasons... 1. Easier to work with 2. Will not need "periodic" calibration. Do you have any suggestions on where to purchase these items online? Side Note: For anyone who as wondered why the long absenses between my posts... 1. I do this as a hobby. When someone gives a suggestion it usually produces hours of research and reading inorder for me to learn what the person meant. ( I am not complaining. This is why I like this hobby, I learn things.) 2. I am the owner of a small trucking company and I still drive trucks now and then (when I can) so if something important pops up I must take care of it. When I am on the road I do not get the time required to "readup" like I would like. So please bear with me folks. I enjoyed my trip to Nevada last week, but had little time to "Fart around". |
