Default I need an alternative to hyperterminal

I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum for this but here it goes... I am trying to download a bit of code from my desktop computer to an in circuit IC. I've tried hyperterminal over and over with no luck. Are there any other freebee programs out there that anyone can recommend?
Thanks,
Dave

Google "TeraTerm"
Google "Terminal by Br@y++"
Google "Putty"

What sort of circuit IC are you trying to talk to. Hyperterminal works it's just a clumsy terminal.

I have never found anything better than PuTTY. I program professionally in a *nix environment and when working remotely I always just ssh in via putty and Bob's your (my?) uncle. It also supports serial comms directly.

Hyper Terminal is fine, I would suggest it's more likely you doing something wrong?.

Does the in-circuit IC have an RS232 interface?, and are there any specific requirements?.

I use Hyper Terminal to upgrade Sharp LCD TV's, and Sharp give exact instructions for both Hyper Terminal and TeraTerm.
