try adc 0804 or 0808 . you havnt said any thing about how you want to use it and why u want to use it.

I agree, Using the 0804 (if it is single analog signal) will give you the 8 bit digital value.
There are other issues also. What is the range of the analog signal that you want to digitize? If it is not in a complex application you can do this without using a micro controller! (by running it in the free run mode)

For the PC connection, You need some "intelligent" device, eg: microcontroller. Many type have analog inputs.
