using 555, you will need 1 555 ic 1 regulator ic 1counter ic a couple of resistor and capacitors(to set the timing factor of the 555)
if you use a pic(small size) all you need is a pic ic regulator and a couple of capacitors. i was worrying that u might not have knowledge regarding the (pIC/ Microcontroller) but if u have pics available its the best option considering reliablity and less space. i think you need 1 hour to finish this project(starting from scratch)

yes am kinda new to electronics stuff.iam learning slowly.
so i think its better to for for 555 circuit.as its analog type i did some search over net and found a good circuit.of course its for knight rider application but my purpose also looks similar. http://www.charlton.vic.edu.au/mark/...s/k-rider.html can suggest the necessary adjustment to make it work for my application? thanks a lot for showing interest. |

the circuit you mentioned is perfect for you. the only thing bad is that it is step counter (i.e it counts 1,2,4,8, 16, 32 ..) your leds will glow like this
10000 01000 00100 00010 00001 but what you need is 10000 11000 11100 11110 11111 You need a diffrent counter i.e replace the 4017 ( sequence/stage counter ) with appropriate one

thanks.
my search is saying 4029 or 4027 can be used for tis purpose.imean replacement for 4017.am i right. another one i found is this http://www.electronics-lab.com/proje...028/index.html |

thanks
with 4017 iam getting one led at a time pattern. and 4029 is working fine for incremental type.but some times its failing.imean the pattern is starting from 2nd or 3rd led. am i using right chip there. can u suggest me some other replacement for it. |

Why not a serial shift register like a 74164? Tie the 7th bit to reset , hold the serial input high, and feed it a clock.

@Helder Ferreira
i made a circuit diagram based on what u explained.pls have a look http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/539/36831896os1.jpg the two points that i don't understand is 1.Connect the cathodes of these zeners together with the base resistor of the 1º tr 2.Now connect the "base node" to the capacitor, trimmer, diode junction am i missing something.pls correct the above pic if required. guys pls give me some rough diagram(paint brush) so that i can understand better. |

It means there is aproblem with the timer cicuit. Which 555 are u using? what is the value of the resistor and capacitor in 555 what is the time constant? are u running ur circuit on 5v or 12v? are u using the voltage regulator?

You should adapt R2 to R7 to the led current and test different zener voltages to suit the correct lightup sequence. I think this a plain and simple circuit that is immune to all electric "noise" in a motorbike power supply

are u saying that this circuit is giving u the sequence u want? or u want this circuit to be altered to give u the sequence u want
??

It will ramp from 1 led on to all in a speed adjusted by the VR, and the step is determined by the different zener diodes. As the capacitor charges when it reaches the zener vlotage + 0,7V from the junction it switches that led, then the next and so on.
