What kind of "Speacil purpose" system are you working on?

Sounds like a special purpose class asignment wmmullaney.
That's engineering in school today for you! Build a special purpose computer, problem is you have to design the purpose for the computer first. Isn't this engineering from the wrong end? What is this teaching?

Sounds like an answer in search of a question - or a solution in search of a problem.

Is it correct to assume that you have the use of a special purpose computer and are trying to find a practical application for it?

I think the input to the computer is punched cards and its memory is hundreds of "core" ferrite beads. I worked on one about 35 years ago.
The teacher should look at the last 35 years of advancements in computers.

My old 486 computer with its broken hard drive still sort-of works. It does a lot more things than just a clock.
A single counter IC is a clock.

1. You can use it for controlling your house, through the parallel port and relays or TRIACS.
2. Make a Carputer
3. Inmerse the board in a big acuarium, and make a strange mod.

well the project originally are used to light some led in different times but i wanna do something more with it i know i can use a simple ic but the course is about doing it hardwired only beside i can reprogram it.
i think "the special purpose computer" term is the problem so lets just say a simple plc circuit.
i thought about the carputer and the"controlling your house" thing but how can i apply that practically i guess maybe on a small scale but thanks for the help anyway..
