| okay so the red is hard wired in to the bikes system, i do not want to cut the wire, rather just connect the 555 and relay or what ever to it , i understand that that switch would be the easiest method, but all i want is one wire coming from the 555 to a single throw switch, then i can connect the other end to a power source. this whole system, red, blue, 555, and relay(what ever it is i use) will all be in a very compact area. not that this matters, but just so you know. i can beilive that the only solution in the world of electronics is this switch.....i thought that there would be a simple little gate or something, or relay, that could do this with out a problem | |

| I don't think you can accomplish what you want to do without splicing something into your brake light circuit, and this will mean either cutting a wire or desoldering something. Now, if you only want two wires going to your activation switch, just have the switch activate a DPDT relay. Relays can be very small, and they're used all the time in automotive applications. | |

| Would a DPDT relay work like this??? if so how do i wire up the DPDTrelay to achive this? ![]() | |

| Yes, a DPDT relay will work like that. Just hook it up like I diagrammed in my second posting of Aug. 14th. The relay will have two other connections for the coil. When current flows through the coil, the switch contacts will move from their "up" position to their "down" position. A spring will restore the switch contacts to the "up" position if current stops flowing through the coil. Just get yourself a DPDT relay that has a clear case so you can see what's going on inside - that should clarify a lot of things. | |

| Hey PC88 help me out with these Pins so i know where to wrie it up to i have tried a lot of configurations but non that work. I also got to thinking and do i need a DPDT or just a DPST being it is always on then the throw switches it over??? | |

| What 8-pin thing are you talking about? A relay? Every relay has its own pin-out. At the very least you'll have to show me what it looks like. | |

| If you must use an all electronic version you could use a power PNP to light the LEDs: I did not test this, but I don't think there are any reasons why it wouldn't work... It also is an example of a circuit that I don't really like but it's quick and dirty. R1=1.5K ohm, 1/4 watt Q1=any high current low voltage PNP-Darlington like TIP125. You may be able to get away with a non-darlington with 560 ohm, 1/2W resistor and a crappy transistor like a TIP42. all other components are as you need. May have to tweak some of the values/transistors depending on your load. I did not draw in the rest of the 555 circuit. P.S. : Having blue lights on your car can get you ticketed. If you get a ticket for impersonating a cop, don't say I didn't warn you... Last edited by boxer4; 24th August 2007 at 04:08 AM. | |

| oh i am very aware of this, i am creating a police bike that will be used on the track as a pace bike | |

| For starters try this: left COM: Vcc left NC: supply to RED led array left NO: unconnected right COM: Vcc right NC: unconnected right NO: supply to BLUE led array coil unenergized => RED led array is active coil energized => BLUE led array is active | |
