Making a Cd player out of a Cd-rom - Electronic Circuits Projects Diagrams Free

Hello,
i want to make a cd player using an old cd-rom. I've searched the web for some projects but all i could find was the simple ones when u connect a power supply (+12,+5) to the cd-rom and u get the audio either from the headphone jack or from the back panel from the audio out connector. This however requires a play button on the cd-rom. I was thinking could it be posible to make a cd player by controling the cd-rom from the ide bus? So u can have all the functions play, pause, skip, stop etc. Any suggestions, recommended reading, mb schematics would be helpful. Thank u very much.
