How much current does your control circuit require?

If the C.T. gives out 5A (or anything like that) I assume it is a raw AC signal, is your control circuit happy with 5v AC or does it require rectifying as well ?
What about linearity or is this some simple trip amp application? At its simplest a 1ohm resistor will produce 5v for a current of 5A but it is going to get HOT
