hi
im completly new to the world of electronic programing and im having to design a digital speedometer using a hall effect sensor and a PIC16F628A chip for my college project. i need to find out a method of been able to program the chip so it compare the time taken for the wheel to turn 1 rev and give out a speed in km on a set of 7 segment display.

any help would be much Appreciated and get the ball moving on my project once more.

You'd be better off aiming at an LCD. It would not use up so many of the available pins, particularly in 4 bit mode. I got 2 from eBay recently for about £6.

 

Here's a start.

Start thinking about sampling rate, display hold time / display refresh rate, & diameter of wheel. You will need some math.
