Default A few questions regarding capacitors and solar cells...

1. What does 100n mean with reference to a capacitor?
2. Will I get a readymade inductor if I specify it's value(say 100uH)
3. In the following figure 'Out' is showing only one terminal of the audio out. Where should I connect the other terminal of the headphones?
4. What does a 12x solar panel mean? Does it mean that it has 12 solar cells attached? or It must give an output of 12Volts?

Thanx

100n=100nF=0.1uF
Headphone other pin connect to positive supply, and must be a high impedance type (1...2kohm)
The coil can be handmade on small ferrite.

If its a preferred value, you can purchase a ready made inductor..

100microhenries is a preferred value, getting one shouldnt pose any problem......

are you sure? i always thought the other pin was connected to ground

Yes, droid sure, because this is not a push-pull output.

Default If i want to make an 100uH inductor, how do i go about it?

Which wire do i use? How many turns should i have? How do i know what i have made is an 100uH coil?

Hi thebigbasicq,

Here is a capacitor equivalents calculator.
You can download it for free at Moyer Electronics.
http://www.moyerelectronics.com/index.html

I'm not impressed with it,
using 1.5 megabytes to move a decimal point
is not my idea of good programming.
I dont like the layout much either.

But there you go, it should do just what you want.

Regards, John

Not sure... what is this in reference to?

This is a good inductor simulator, which will give you the diameter, number of turns etc, for an air-core coil.

Default About the first quote, it is in relation to the Solar Ni-Cd

charger. My questions are:
1. Can I use a bead type 100uH inductor?
2. The circuit of the Solar Ni-Cd charger requires a 12x solar batteries. What does that mean?

I am attaching the circuit.

Thanx
