Could anyone suggest me some low cost DAC with parallel inputs? I need an 8-bit resolution at ~audio frequencies.

I tried one with resistors but it was one big mess as R & 2R values are not available. So I had to use R & R+R so 3 resistors per bit...

Not sure how low of a price you where looking for, as you didn't specify. But I love these:
MAX530 +5V, Low-Power, Parallel-Input, Voltage-Output, 12-Bit DAC get some samples!

WOW no kidding, I would be too! That is crazy! Again why not get some samples instead, not that would help for production but if it's just this time why not??
