Default Is there a 3.3V replacement for the LM7805?

Is there a 3.3V replacement for the LM7805? TO-220 style?

Take a look at the LM3940.

What current do you need? and what is the input voltage?

The LM3940 can't be operated with high input voltages.
The LM2937-3.3 has a wide input voltage range but it can supply up to 500 mA.

An LM317 can supply 3.3v - it's not a direct replacement, you have to use two resistors to set the voltage.
It is a good regulator though -better than a 7805.

Does it have to be linear?

LM2575-3.3 ... "Simple Switcher", only needs 3 components, 3.3v at 1A from up to 40v in

with LM317, 390 ohms, 240 ohms you will have 3.3V

Thanks the LM2940 3.3 looks like the part I'll use. I wanted to drop in a 3.3 into the Inchworm ICD2 for 3.3V projects. (Use a 3.3v MAX 232 too)
