some states have laws that high voltage cars have to have labels showing the high voltage lines. for the emergency workers.
also is the high voltage going to get the poeple in the car in a crash?
I think my most shocking experience was when I was
installing the controller on my powered wheelchair
and forgot to route the cable on the outside.
I leaned back and WHAM! the chair had scissored the cable in a shower of sparks and smoke!
The wires had fused together in a big blob but I pulled the plug before it started a fire.
Sadly an expensive lesson...altho still using the same 12 year old gel-cell batteries, they actually still hold a good charge
    Boy, did you get lucky!

I was lucky... that the chair had a decent charger, otherwize the batteries wouldn't have lasted so long.
The batteries have actually outlasted the chair

Why do you say that? Do you know any of the technical specs or the manufacturers? I personally would be interested in both? You say they were Gel cells. Are they Lithium Ion do you know? I guess NiCads have bought the big one. Not sure why that is but I have been using sealed led-acid with quite pleasing results. Of course I don't have any Lithium Ion batteries to try out...lol. I would like to make some of my own evaluations. I like portable gear and I use a solar panel I picked up at Pep Boys I think it is 14 watts. They sell it to charge your car battery and I have had the opportunity to do just that when the car's alternator went out. It took a few hours but it did work.

This is probably because many countries have outlawed the use of cadmium where it isn't necessary.

They were Deep-Cycle Gel Cells (Marine Type) as far as I know, the chair is a Jazzy 1100..very reliable even if somewhat heavy 300 lbs!
The chair itself uses 2 batteries in series...with a range of 24 miles so it says in the literature..ive only taken it 12 at most, what with steady runs up inclines etc.

What do you mean 1100? Oh, model number? Deep cycle marine batteries are what is recommended in back up power systems like dynamometers and synchronis power supplies. I did not know marine batteries were gel cells. I knew they could not deliver the high cranking amps required of a lead acid battery but knew they were more reliable with a steady current consumption. I always wondered what was the difference between marine batteries and regular lead acid. Maybe that is it.

I thought is was something to do the problem of jump starting another boat from a boat. You know how there is a heavy ground in the water and it can cause a battery to explode?

I never tried to jump start a boat, but I can imagine the dangers what with fumes going to the lowest point and explosions being a hazard...maybe thats why they have blowers on some yachts.
Doesn't water have resistance tho as far as grounding?

I don't remember what the deal is, but your supposed to take your battery out and put it inside the other guys boat to jump start it. Your not supposed to use cables from one boat to the other. I can't remember the whole story, I just remember freaking out when I heard it. It was a new one one me.
