Are the Mars Rovers still running around Mars on worn out tires and lasting 17 times longer than designed??

At a competition I got to talk to the director of the robotics program at NASA (Dave Langley or something like that) and he said that opportunities broken left rear wheel became snagged and dragged, prompting the "trench". in the trench there is a silicous type material, and frozen water. The soil is also acidic (around 4 he said on the pH scale) and could possibly grow asparagus.
