Default Newbie saying Hi!

Hi, this looks like a friendly forum and i thought i'd better make a little intro about myself. My name is John Dillon from London UK, i am a custom painter/ commercial artist by day and am a complete novice regarding anything to do with electronics.
I have recently decieded to do some work on my motorcycle and one of the projects involves changing the rear lights for LED's. I've posted a message on the General Electronics Chat section about this. I've tried to do a little research regarding this project but am getting conflicting responses, but dispite this, i'm finding this world of electronics quite fascinating and wish i had delved into it sooner.
I will definitely be looking in on a regular basis. I'm sorry i can't be a regular contributor to the forum as my knowledge regarding this subject is zilch

As one noob to another: Hi, John!

Although I'm not sure if I still qualify as a noob. What do you call it if you've been at something for awhile but you're still incompetent? Besides modesty, I mean. As soon as you get your motorcycle LEDs sorted, you'll know more about that than I do!

Seriously, though, there are some good people with good electronics ideas around here. Welcome.

FYI: Get yourself an avatar, or at least fill in your location in your profile. It goes a long way towards getting you better help, for some reason.

Welcome,

What sort of custom painting do you do? Are you the sort of artist that wants to do a huge LED cube etc.?

Mike.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Hank, point taken, i've just done the location and avatar thing

Mike i airbrush on motorcycles and crash helmets the usual custom stuff, thats why if i can get the LEDs on my cycle sorted i can incorporate it into my art. I also specialise in airbrushing on collectable merchandising such as pens and lighters, with my fiancee. My avatar is one of the lighters i painted.

John,

May I ask, how exactly do you airbrush pens with your fiancée? The mind boggles.

On a more serious note, did you airbrush that straight onto the lighter and are you intending to do any electronic art?

Mike.

Mike
we've been airbrushing for over 10 yrs and its really down to alot of practice. We also incorporate alot of mask cutting to help us achieve the effect we are looking for, some of the motorsport lighters we do can be up to 80% masks where as the portraits can be up to 80% free hand airbrush work, our business site is on www.artenchant.com

I don't know about electronic art, its something we're not familiar with. However if this little LED project works i might incorporate it into my custom artwork.

Thanks Mike--now I have to clean coffee off my screen.

John, welcome to the board! I'm also an electronics hobbyist/wannabe and my wife is an artist (mostly acrylic and tattoo). Hope you enjoy the forum and my guess is that once you learn a bit, your mind will start bugging you with all kinds of cool projects and works you could use electronics for.
