In regards to to OP's complaint about "whitespace" on google, i rather like it. I don't want to be bombarded with stupid ads and headlines that become distracting, and slow my internet experience down.

Get over your complaints. Google rocks. There is nothing better, and i will stand by that. THERE IS NOTHING BETTER!

OK the other day I wanted to got to Bob Parker web site, I know is in Australia, he was the good joker that introduce the electronic service world to the ESR meter, (can you work that out)

I go to google.co.nz his result comes up #14 (alright that is not too bad it might of been #114 that would used up a bit of time)

I decided to go to google Australia I type in www.google.co.au . I got 404 maybe it ends co.aus Then I work it out to be .com.au & Bob Parker web site is #1 (thats great work)

it go me thinking (can you people work that out) Google home page is just about 80% empty space, why cant I just select "search only Australia web sites" from my New Zealand google it would of save a lot of time if Bob Parker
web site had of been a lot lower down the NZ world ranking, and would save my going to different googles around the world, like Australia

I am really sorry I lost my cool doing this posting, and now I dont give a shit if the moderator bans me from this group I have just lost faith that all electronics people are intelligent.
Well, sometimes it's better to keep your mouth shut and risk being thought a fool, than to open it and remove all doubt. People here have been trying to pierce your confused writings to get at the nub of your problem (which isn't even a problem if you know what you're doing) and you respond with insults.

Oddly, I typed "esr meter bob parker" into Google (in Canada) and guess what? The Australian site was the first hit.

The open space on the Google home page is not wasted, it is simply not required that it be filled with extraneous features which are only needed in a small minority of searches. Those extra features are available for the times when they're needed; you simply need to calm down and look for them more carefully. kchriste's post contained the information you wanted. If you want that available on the main Google page, use Firefox and write yourself a Greasemonkey script to do it.

I wonder why those who are so much smarter than the rest of us will complain about how somebody else did something, instead of showing us how to do it better.

Sounds like you are trying to make this into a argument.

I gave iGoogle a try, but didn't really like it. That was a while ago, though, so maybe they have done some updates?
