The norms for Nano is Euro III which is obsolete in Europe. India is about 5-10 years behind Europe. That is good news in that they are moving forward.

I hope the car does well.

Europe:
Quote:
Euro 2 (1996) for passenger cars - 94/12/EC (& 96/69/EC)
Euro 3 (2000) for any vehicle - 98/69/EC [10]
Euro 4 (2005) for any vehicle - 98/69/EC (& 2002/80/EC)
Euro 5 (2008/9) for any vehicle - (COM(2005) 683 - proposed)[11]
India:
Quote:
Overview of the emission norms in India
1996 - Revision of Mass Emission Norms for Gasoline and Diesel Vehicles, mandatory fitment of Catalytic Converter for Cars in Metros on Unleaded Gasoline.
1998 - Cold Start Norms Introduced.
2000 - India 2000 (Eq. to Euro I) Norms, Modified IDC (Indian Driving Cycle), Bharat Stage II Norms for Delhi.
2001 - Bharat Stage II (Eq. to Euro II) Norms for All Metros, Emission Norms for CNG & LPG Vehicles.
2003 - Bharat Stage II (Eq. to Euro II) Norms for 11 major cities.
2005 - From 1st April Bharat Stage III (Eq. to Euro III) Norms for 11 major cities.
2010 - Bharat Stage III Emission Norms for 4-wheelers for entire country whereas Bharat Stage - IV (Eq. to Euro IV) for 11 major cities.

I compared the TATA to these cars because it is the category that it will most likely fall into based on past reading about similar cars.
TATA motors was trying to make a minimalist Econo-box vehicle they have done an extremely good job. as far as looks go I guess it looks ok, not attractive not hideous, It can cart around a family and probably not much more. But hey when it breaks down you can put it in the back of your Tahoe and take it to the dealership for servicing!! For those who want to see a few other minimalist vehicles look at the following. Yes, I know these are sports cars and on the complete opposite end of he vehicular spectrum but they are cool cars!
Aerial Atom - (my dream car!!)
Lotus (my other dream car)
