What has happened to this forum?!? - Electronic Circuits Projects Diagrams Free

please! What is the point of such topics as the Christmas thread in JUNE!? It just wants to make me cry :'(

When I first came to this forum it was mainly business. Cool circuits, cool people talking on interesting topics witch had at least SOMETHING to do with electronics... Like Pike, who is no longer with us for unknown reason and his awesome tank robot; and roboticsinfo who too has disappeared (again)... and SomeoneElectro etcetcetc... toooo many! Also I see Nigel lesser and lesser active here...

Now all I see here is pure BS. ok there are some sugar grains in this sour cream, but this should be the other way around! There are too many people asking for idiot advice like "Hi dear Sir. I want tu bild a PC controller robot. Please give me the schematic and program. Also the mechanical plans as I'm not good at it. Thank you! (not always added)". Where do we get like this? Now that Google has grown bigger and better than before cant you just go and search yourself something!.

Also I'm starting to think, that the OT forum is getting more traffic than the other forums all combined! Is this normal for an electronics forum? I personally don't think so...

Is there something to do about this? I don't know... We can't delete every idiotic topic now can we... It's too hard work as those come in not on daily basis, but one in every hour IMHO! And we don't have the moderator force either... How many are there who can do that?

OK I'm going to cry in my pillow now. bye!

I agree, there has been a bunch of requests from noobs looking for a complete project, which is part of the problem. but part of the reason why I stopped coming around as often is due to the simplicity of the questions being asked. Like people looking for a simple dice rolling circuit, etc. I'm just not that interested in the simple stuff when I'm working on more complex things like an SCR driver circuit for a 3kW powersupply.

I liked this forum back in the day, I was able to get quite a few ideas for projects and whatnot. I was thinking that it'd be kinda nice to have a User Projects section on the forum. That way people would be able to post their more advanced ideas and projects, which could spark some ideas for other people.

Thanks for replying. I've been waiting for a reply for a while now to see, what do people think about this issue. It seems a lot of "younger" members don't give a shi* about this topic...

I like your idea of Projects section of some sort. But it has a little problem. It WILL get flooded with OT topics and posts. I have seen that happen in many forums before and it seems inevitable sadly. It would be possible to make it password protected to write. So that you must have a "special" password to write, but everyone can read those discussions there by the "masters". I'd call it "watch and learn ****" forum (you can thing of the word in the ****, it can be noob, it can be b***h what ever is you like

)

And it seems this is the reason why most of us have almost left that place... SomeoneElectro told me the same reason via MSN few hours back...

Maybe it's time for us old guys to step up and take charge of this place... As moderators of course, not admins or anything... I really would like to see a projects part of that forum being considered as a good idea and added to the ETO. I have some projects that I would like to share with you guys. Maybe not as "HiTec" as your 3kV power supply, but still something interesting for some I hope

I'm waiting for more ideas, comments or personal statements. Please feel free to discuss that topic here. Everyone is welcome with an on topic post here. And people saying anything OT... I will make my best to get you banned for a while; really! (this has to be very OT then. I'm not that harsh actually, but if someone asks, how to blink an LED here, i'm going to demolish him).

other forums I frequent have experienced the same "newbie influx"... that is the downside to fast affordable computers and Internet = more people connected = more newbies everywhere.

Not trying to say anything about particular ethnic group or being racist or anything like that, but is it just me but I see more and more people from India and Pakistan and Iran and other "Middle- East" countries. When "I was a young", I didn't see any posts from that area for some reason. What can be the reason for that... And what will happen, when those OLPC laptops come out? those supposedly can get to internet also... uhh... I have nothing against that project or the general idea behind this, but I'm just afraid of children from all over the world, who have never seen a laptop (some even electricity) in their life and now can get to the internet... How will they behave? They have no internet culture so they do not know, that there are different rules then there are in the wild or real life...
This is actually making me a bit worry about the future... Damn I hate when this happens (When I realize something as I type to the forum or write an essay; there is actually pretty shitty life we live in!)...

OK Now for all persons am I the on, who is drifting OT here... Just great! Let's try to drift back on the topic trail.

What do you think? Should I (or someone else) contact Mr. Admin to talk about the locked projects area? What are your opinions. I think I'll put in on a vote in the next thread...

Everyone can view them. It's just that not everyone can post. The password is obtainable via PM from someone who has it.

Private forums are a standard feature of the board, and at least one is already implemented - you only see them though if you're an authorised member.

As I see it a more general 'private forum' would only create more work to moderate, including allowing and disallowing members to use it.

So if I understand you correctly making a subforum with a password can not be done? I mean you log in with your usual account and then, if you want to post there you have to enter an extra password somewhere. But everyone can see it. even quests.

No idea if you can do that or not?, but you can have completely private forums, ONLY visible to the authorised members - as the forum already has.

Well the idea was, that one can give access to it without the aid of moderators. Just to make your life easier... And so that others could see, what's going on in there and learn...
but if that kind of forum shall be made, I would be happy to be one of the moderators over there...

I don't know if this is technically feasible, but what if the proposed project forum could be set to only allow posts that contain code, diagrams or photos?

That may deter those who only want to ask the vague questions etc so they will use one of the other forums instead.
