Default Cutting with Electricity

This idea came to me in a dream, Ive made plasma before, hell I think we all have at one point, But the plasma Ive made is Electrical Plasma. Now I know there are Industral plasma Cutters that use just that- Electricity.

Could I cut metal with Plasma Ive generated from a 2kV .9A Transformer ? I have many of these transformers Available to parallel them for more current.

ADD- Looks Like I would need Nitrogen or Some Inert Gas, Shouldnt be a problem to get helium or argon.

I remember poking around the web looking at plasma cutting stuff a while back

http://www.sppusa.com/reference/white_paper/wp_pc.html
http://www.metalwebnews.com/wc.html

Also, sometimes they cut using oxygen when "burning" through steels.

I think most of the voltages are relatively low since the plasma conducts electricity. That and the electrodes are made of special alloys: tungsten with hafnium...

(there's a picture of the business end of a plasma cutter electrode)

Scary stuff...

Wouldn't it be better just to buy a plasma cutter for this? It's dangerous stuff.

You probably could do plasma cutting with that transformer but it would have to be current limited or it will overheat.

How about this, it's slighty less dangerous ,but not by much, it will not cut metal. However you may find it usefull...

Skip the cutting bit, you can use a dremel tool to cut if you want. If you want to get creative come up with a home brew resistance welding tool =)
