AC line harmonics

I see a lot of people new and old often have a question or two about Alternating current related circuits and devices.
Most are good and honest questions too.
But there are a few posters here that have an uncontrolable compulsion to bring up HARMONICS at every chance they get.
WHAT THE F*CK?
yes, anything related to AC does and will produce a potential line noise of some sort. I know that. But do you really need to bring that up when a kid is asking about a 6 volt 1 amp ac power pack?

Do you need to see a doctor about OCD meds?
If he is trying to run a disruptive discharge circuit for a tesla coil right from the line source, then yes, its a valid point.
Use a little common sense and proper judgement for gods sake!
Why are some so ovewhelmingly concerned about every possible source of an electrical noise?
Did you have a electronics class instructor that shoved a cattle prod up your ass before every class started. And when anyone asked about an AC circuit he screamed LINE HARMONICS and pushed a button and fried the whole lot of you?

i think there are 2 sources of the line harmonics phobia. the first is from the audio "golden eardrum" society. anything except "pure AC" is unacceptable to power audiophile equipment. so somebody drums up this fear of the deleterious effects of line harmonics. then thy turn around and offer to sell you the latest (and obviously MOST expensive) AC line conditioner and "cryogenically de-stressed" power cords.
the second source is actually a legitimate concern is from the ham radio community. RF noise from power lines can be quite annoying if you are trying to grab a signal from the noise floor but all you can hear is BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.Posted 18th April 2009 at 06:13 PM by unclejed613
