Teardown: 3~ 1.5kw motor speed controller

Blog entry posted in 'Teardowns', March 16, 2014.

    Hey,

Found this beast from local auction. I didn't really have any use for it, except teardow/salvage.
if i ever need motor controller, i buy it, with current specs (efficiency, protections etc...)

Despite size, this isn't that heavy. heaviest part is probadly heatsink, which is BIG as seen in pictures.
Its made by strömberg, in finland.
    input specs are: 380v~ 2.5 A, 48-63hz
    output: 0-380v~ 2.8 A, 0-100hz
For safety purposes, i DIDN'T probe output waveforms by 'scope

The build quality is sturdy, and made to be opened, at least considering the quantity of screws used.
PCB/cable assemblies were also organized nicely. Almost every piece of wire were marked, which goes were. Even control panel was nicely organized.

The first pcb seems to be logic board, at least considering quantity of, memory/logic ic's. Wide cables which are seen, are ICD-style, with lockable connectors. Trimpots were also multi-turn precision types.

After logic board, underneath was PSU section. There was 6 same looking sections, (6 coils, 6 GFT20B12 scr's)
Also, some bigger caps (along power resistor, seems either inrush/discharge resistors), and chokes, one choke looked like current transformer for current measuring.

Other than this, i can't tell about this, i don't have experience with 3~systems much/their topology.
And, i paid of this around 30-40 euros, so not bad deal IMO.
