there is a scope in alternative energy sources
but what qualification a person should have in order to go in that field?

The only perpetual motion machine that has been created thus far is the one that expends the intellect, energy, and time that has been spent on trying to create perpetual motion.
True 'power' can only come from an abundant source of material for which we currently have no other use for that also has the same property of being easily converted into energy. If only it didn't take so much energy to create anti-matter here on earth =)

I'll agree with the physics background, however as well as the theory get some hands-on experience. Doing special projects that give you experience building gadgets should be useful

Ask Joseph Newman - he seems to be doing well from his 'over unity' farce and endless youtube vids!
Seriously though, study electrical engineering or computer science - both will give you the tools to pay the bills. I can recommend some good Uni's in the UK? S.

I see you're in Cambridge?.
My daughters currently looking for a Uni, Cambridge is definitely NOT on the list though - she loved the buildings, but was unimpressed with the staff and students there, it didn't have a nice 'feel' to it. We know a few people who have been there recently, all hated it, and complained about the lack of lectures you actullay get - Cambridge offer the smallest number of lecture hours in the UK, and actually only provide half of those!. Needless to say, all the people we know at Cambridge have gone elsewhere for their Post Grad courses. Current favourites for my daughter are Newcastle and York (but we've got four more to visit so far). |

I totally agree - I work with a bunch of Cambridge grads and some a lot of them are a bit lacking in the social skills dept although very good engineers! As you will know, each uni has its own specialist subject so 'you pays your money and takes your choice'. Leeds and Newcastle will not dissapoint in terms of social events, nightlife and generally nice people (I am from the North so maybe slightly biased!). I realise that Cambridge might not be everyones cup of tea but I dont know anyone who has left there and not already had an engineering job lined up. Good luck with your hunt, I hope she finds somewhere she likes. S.

Currently Newcastle and York are the favourites, based on their performances, friendly nature, and courses she's looking for - either Mchem or Mmath - with Mchem the leader at the moment. Quote:

The University of Southampton has a fairly good Electronics department, Its part of the IETs power accademy and thus performs to a higher standard of teaching in Electrical engineering than most others.
It was also home to Europes leading fiber optic research facility untill it burnt down in 2005 (with the largest ever university insurance claim) Its one of only two universites that has its own high voltage lab of >1MW (the other is manchester - also quite a good uni for electrical engineering) And this year sees the completion of the new nano tech labs. Oh and one of our Professors is Tim berners-Lee - inventor of the internet. |
