i think it would be pmdc. it was out of a 24 volt electric scooter and is very heavy. it also has two wires out red and black.
thanks

Thats the problem , 24 Volts ...
at what RPM ?

a 90 V PMDC treadmill motor makes a much better wind turbine generator, because the RPMs needed to produce power is a lot less.
hence to start charging a 12Volt battery ,the RPMs needed are alot less than if it was a 24V motor.
you could allways boost the voltage .
you would need a PIC controller with PWM ,a FET , an inductor and a fast diode
what you do is pulse the inductor with the fet and the generator in one loop ,when the inductor is still releasing energy and the FET is off the current has no where to go , so you place the diode above the drain (between the inductor and the fet) pointing twards your battery.

In the attached ckt..
M1 M3 and R2 are optional , as is the Cap,
your motor/generator would go where the three phase Alternator and the diode bridge is.

my wind turbine doesn't light up the lightbulb =( i did exactly as it said on the website but the lightbulb still won't light up... It's a 6,5 watt lightbulb do I need a different one??? Or doesn't it work with 4 magnets spinning above 4 coils of wire??

could you describe your setup a little more ?
particulary your coils
four mags and four coils is not three phase , or single phase

try an LED. if that doesn't work post some pic's so we can see what you have done

I'm using a 2,5V lightbulb that was the lowest V I could find.

Thats the message I get when I click on any of your links. If your posting pictures either jpg, gif, png etc are accepted but whatever you tried to upload the board didnt recoginise it.

Anway I read that .pdf and would be surprised if it would light an led at its full rate. An old stepper motor can be used for a small wind genny turbine and checkout this link http://www.thebackshed.com/windmill/assemblyMini1.asp

Glenn gives all the details on making it and my sticky has a heap of links to wind genny sites all ya need to do is read it.

Cheers Bryan

There is an edit button.

There's no need to make four posts when one would have done fine!

Your knob doesn't get bigger with every post you make you know.
