Steorn is an obvious fraud, most clearly because their claims are impossible. On other fronts, claiming scientists have verified it when no scientists can be found is also a problem. Never having made a product or having shown anyone a working model is a problem.

They're a company which promised to make a microgenerator and also did some sort of forensic work. They failed to file accounting reports, which are a strict legal requirement, for the last 2 yrs. This tends to imply the country is not only down the tubes but are into accounting fraud.

They're playing a game. They could demo a model in a few days to the right people. Instead, they set up this elaborate confirmation process in order to make themselves look confident in their discovery while delaying the actual confirmation by dragging along the actual steps.

The unique part is having the balls to take out an ad in The Economist to push their scam. That's a new one.

Interestingly, the wikipedia article says they are in trouble with Irish (tax?) filing regulations with a deadline of October 2006. Failure to file will mean the the Irish govt takes possession of their assets. anyone know what happened?

No ... , not from the air. Either an interference with the Earth's own magnetic field, or extracting energy from the vacuum of space. Yes, the latter exists, in naturally disordered form, but it can be engineered to be "coherred" asymetrically, analogous to the wound spring of a clock-work mechanism under stress, ready to release its energy kinetically. In the case of Steorn, it would be photons "lined up", not disordered, working together to add to a magnetically-induced electric current(Farady et al.), literally potentializing each electron to a higher level than the work done to separate the electrons from their atomic orbits to begin with. Getting something for nothing? In this case, yuppp!! .., just like we get wind power for nothing, except that the wind doesn't always blow, or blow where we want it to, and the capital equipment is costly to buy and breaks down easily (gearboxes etc.). These photons, though, are everywhere on Earth if tapping the Earth's magnetic field, and everywhere in space if using the vacuum energy of space. It's just a matter of engineering, and Steorn may just have done it ... along with a few other companies who are slightly behind due to lack of funding.

"They could demo a model in a few days to the right people" - maybe, maybe not .. They have investors to whom they should have demo'd the goods

After all, it's not supposed to be true.
