All of the early 8 bit Intel processors began with two digits in the range 80-89. The "c" is for CMOS in contrast to the earlier version which were NMOS. The 51 is an architecture variant, but the set of variants does not fill up the entire range of 00-99. The 8-bit variants I am aware of include 8008, 8041, 8048, 8051, 8080, 8085, 8086, 8088There may be others, but I'm not aware of them.

The numbers are vendor dependent, and don't always make sense.
